I was browsing the Instagram page @kurdipeti, which encourages the use of authentic Kurdish words. The gentle, persistent light that page holds for the language warmed my heart; I felt that an ordinary sentence of praise wouldn’t be enough.
My fingers first went to the familiar “Bijî!”. But just then, something else stirred in my mind. The two warmest, brightest words in Kurdish spontaneously came together:
Xweşbaş!
